In this chapter, Kira, Thomas, and Matt went to the floor below, only to hear Jamison's voice and the child crying. After the child stopped crying she began to sing, and Matt knew her from the fen. Both her parents died, and she was brought here because orphans who sing cannot be given away. Her name is Jo and she is younger than Matt.
When Jamison came to visit Kira, she told him about how she heard growling on her way to the dyer and how Annabella told her that there are no beasts. Jamison was shocked that someone with so much knowledge would say that. After Jamison left, Kira felt the piece of cloth, but felt no comfort from it. It left her with a warning.

In this chapter, Kira did not remember the dream she had the night before , but she knew that it told her something important, but she did not know what it was. Recently, Jamison has been stopping by Kira twice a day to see the progress that was made on the robe. He had said that after this year's gathering and restoration, she will have an entire section to work on for many years. Kira placed her hand on that section, but she didn't feel any magic there, only emptiness. On the robe, lay a complex story of beautiful green waters, beasts by the shore, men "bloodied" by the hunt, unique dwellings, and fires. But Kira noticed a pattern in the robe; Ruin, Rebuilding, Ruin, Regrowth....
During the night, Thomas and Kira keep hearing sounds of a child crying that came from the floor below them. They are headed to explore now, the floor that seemed to be a mystery. |
