In the last chapter of Gathering Blue, Kira thinks about how, Jo is going to be the next singer, Thomas would be the carver, and she would be the threader. They would all tell the future and lay it all out. After figuring that out, she remembered the horrific sight she saw at the end of the gathering. There were chains and meta cuffs on the Singer's bloody feet. Kira then decided to stay because she had a job she had to finish and there were people here that she just couldn't leave. And so that was it and Matt guided her father home. Before he left, he gave her blue thread, that was held tight in her hands, and it almost seemed that it was coming to life.

In this chapter, Kira's father tells her his whole story...
When he was on a hunt one day, the men separated, and when he had been stalking a deer, someone came up behind him and hit him on the head with a club, then stabbed him, and left him to die. He woke in the Field and could not see, but it was miracle that people just showed up and they gave him medicine and took him to a safe place. They continued caring for him in a place where everyone is wounded somehow, and he was there for years, until Matt came. Matt told him all about Kira, and here he is now. There are no beasts, and the one who tried to kill her Father was Jamison. In this chapter, the Gathering ended and the BIG gift arrived. When Kira returned to her room, she was greeted by a man, who had scars on his face and was clearly blind. Matt had brought him on his trip back from "yonder", and he gave Matt the blue cloth. At the end of the journey , the blind man walked the rest of the way by himself. He had brought the plant that makes the blue dye with him, and Kira was very thankful.
"Kira, he said, but he did not need to tell her now, because she knew, "my name is Christopher. I am your father." In this chapter, Kira and Thomas spotted Matt and Branch in the middle of the Gathering and were so happy they were back. When they were in Intermission and were having lunch, Matt gave Kira his first gift to her. He gave her Blue, and he would have a really big gift still coming. Matt had said that he found it because there is a path behind Annabella's house that leads to a happy place full of kind, "broken people", that have Blue. Matt said that the way there was not scary because of what Annabella said... "There be no beasts."
In this chapter, it was the day of the Gathering and everyone was lining up to enter the Council of Edifice. Thomas and Kira watched the crowd gather for the ceremony, but there was no Matt. Thad been days now and he hasn't showed up.
In the beginning of the Gathering, Kira, Thomas, and Jo were announced and recognized, and then the Singer began.... "In the beginning...." In this chapter, the day of the Gathering was coming up and everyone in the village were so busy making last minute preparations for the upcoming event. Kira and Thomas were also making some finishing touches on the Singer's robe and staff. They would hear Jo sing occasionally, but the crying stopped. Jamison was quite pleased with Kira's work on the robe and they talked about some of the events that happened in the Ruin.
I think that Kira, Thomas, and Jo are here only because their talents will help with the Gathering. Kira will continue with the robe, Thomas will continue carving the staff, and Jo will become the next Singer for the Gathering. Each of them will soon lay out the future for years to come. In this chapter Kira and Thomas walked over to the Fen to find out some things about Jo from Matt and maybe get her a toy. When they arrived there they were shocked at what people's living situations are. Everything was dirty and dark, and the people were begging for food when Kira and Thomas were asking about Jo. Then they were starting to get worried about Matt because they have not seen him and heard from him in days. They asked where Matt's cott was and they were not warmly greeted by his mother. Two days before Matt stole food and his mother had harshly thrown a rock at him, and he ran away on a journey. He went on a journey to get a gift for Kira... He was going to find blue yonder.
In this chapter, Thomas and Kira went down to the floor below them and visited the young tyke, Jo. Jo was frightened at first and just wanted her mom. Kira then calmed her down and held her tight. Jo explained to Kira and Thomas that they make her remember so many new songs that she isn't used to singing and her head is starting to hurt from it. When Kira is lying in bead later on that night, she is thinking about her life and how she is not free. She has to always focus on work and is not allowed to express herself through her threading anymore. Even though her door is not locked, it seems as if she is trapped.
In this chapter, workers set up a place for Kira to continue her dying at the edge of the forest. It was a little hut where every material, including Annabella's plants, were provided. Jamison had told Kira that Annabella died of old age, but questions like Who found her? and How did they know to look? kept repeating in her head. Kira explained everything to Thomas and they were talking about how they were Artists and that only they have these knowledges that Marlena was talking about.
Kira was going to keep her promise to help Jo, and that is what they were going to do tonight. Thomas had a key to unlock her door that he made, because when her was a tyke, they locked his door too. In the chapter, when Kira was on her way to the dyer's hut, she saw a woman, who's name was Marlena that she knew from the weaving hut. She asked Marlena if she knew of a tyke named Jo because she lives in the fen too. Marlena knew of her singing talent and said that the songs come to her through magic and that they can tell the future.
When she was about to head toward that path, Matt stopped her saying that she should not go to the dyer's hut today because Annabella had been taken to the field by draggers early in the morning and that she had died. Kira was shocked because she had just seen the old woman two days before. As she set out to find Jamison for an explanation, she found out that Jamison was part of Annabella's death. On her way back to her quarters, Kira stopped by to see Jo, who was very frightened and wanted her mom. Kira new she had to go back to help the small tyke. |
