In Jonas' perfect world, everything and everyone are the same. Everyone in the community is always feed, secure, and cured when they are hurt. But, what is missing from their world as opposed to my world is TV, phones, cars, color, and freedom. They have no communication to the outside world and Jonas ran away to find elsewhere. He saw what his father does when babies are released and Gabe was next. He was mortified and was beginning to realize how unfair and unjust sameness is and couldn't take it anymore. Personally, I would not want to live in a world that is without love, color, and warmth. I would rather live in a world that is unsafe than live without these things.

Think about the plan that the Giver and Jonas develop. What are the causes that lead to this plan? What effect will the plan have?
The plan that the Giver and Jonas develop is one that involves Jonas running away elsewhere. The causes that lead to this plan is Jonas seeing what a release looks like. He saw his father killing an innocent baby, and Gabe was going to be next. He also found out that The Giver wanted to be released to be with Rosemary, the previous receiver of memories. Rosemary was the Giver’s daughter. Lastly, Jonas was realizing that Sameness is just not fair because the whole community is missing out on things like love and color. The effect of this plan is that everyone will be able to experience the memories that they didn’t get to before. There will no longer be Sameness anymore…. |
